Travelling out of Bangalore

Bangalore generates more weekend group travel than any other hub we serve, and almost all of it involves a ghat section. Coorg, Chikmagalur, Sakleshpur and Wayanad all end in sustained climbs on narrow, well-surfaced but tight roads, which is exactly where a long-wheelbase Urbania needs a driver who has done the route before. Departure timing matters more here than distance: leaving Bangalore after 07:00 on a Friday can add two hours before you reach open road.

Bangalore's group travel is organised around the weekend in a way no other hub we serve is, and the consequence is that the hour you leave matters more than the distance you are covering. A Friday evening departure towards Coorg or Chikmagalur can spend a substantial part of its journey getting out of the city, while the same trip leaving before dawn on Saturday is a genuinely pleasant drive. We will always ask what time you want to leave, and we will say honestly when the answer is going to cost you three hours.

The return is the half people forget to plan. Sunday evening brings the whole weekend back at once, and a group that dawdles over lunch at a plantation can turn a comfortable drive home into a crawl. Where a trip allows it we suggest leaving the hills earlier than feels necessary. It is the least popular piece of advice we give and the one most often thanked for afterwards.

Almost every good route out of Bangalore ends in a ghat section, and ghat kilometres are not highway kilometres. Fifty kilometres of sustained climbing on a narrow, well-surfaced but tight road takes far longer than fifty kilometres of anything else, and an itinerary built by adding distances on a map will be wrong by hours rather than minutes. This is also the terrain where the chauffeur matters most. A long-wheelbase vehicle on an unfamiliar hairpin sequence in fading light is a genuinely demanding drive, and we crew these routes with people who have done them.

The city's technology corridors generate a second, quite different pattern: corporate group movement that repeats, runs on weekdays, and is judged on punctuality and invoicing rather than on comfort. Access at many campuses needs the vehicle registration and driver details submitted in advance, and security desks are not flexible about it. Tell us at the booking stage and it is handled; tell us at the gate and it is not.

Older parts of the city constrain vehicle size much as they do elsewhere, and a few residential layouts have gates a long vehicle simply cannot swing through. Where that is true we will say so before the morning rather than discovering it with your group waiting on a pavement.

Bangalore is also the airport of record for Mysore, which is why a good share of what we run here is a long transfer rather than a tour.
