Local Packages
Hourly local hire within the city, on the two packages we run: 8 hours and 80 km, or 12 hours and 100 km.
A local package buys a block of hours and a block of kilometres inside one city, and the thing to understand about it is that you are mainly buying the hours. Two tiers are offered: an eight-hour day with eighty kilometres, and a twelve-hour day with a hundred. Which one suits you depends far more on how long you will be out than on how far you will travel, because within a city the clock almost always runs out before the odometer does.
People consistently misjudge this. A day spent visiting four places across a large city might cover barely fifty kilometres while consuming eleven hours, most of them spent waiting while you are somewhere. That is the normal shape of a local day, and it is why a package that looks generous on distance can still be exhausted on time. If your day involves waiting anywhere for more than an hour, count the hours first and treat the kilometres as the secondary number.
The clock starts when the vehicle reports to you and stops when it is released, not when you happen to be sitting in it. This is the single most common misunderstanding in local hire and it is worth stating bluntly. A vehicle that waits three hours outside a venue has been working for three hours. That waiting is the service you have booked, and pricing that pretended otherwise would simply be a different argument later.
Going beyond either allowance is normal and is charged at published rates, per extra kilometre and per extra hour. Neither is a penalty and neither should be a surprise. The useful habit is to estimate honestly at the booking stage: if your twelve-hour day is realistically a fourteen-hour day, saying so lets us plan the driver's shift properly instead of discovering the problem at ten at night. A driver who was expecting to finish at seven has a family too.
Package rates are fixed for the hours and kilometres stated, and vary by seater. The driver's allowance is included within the package day; tolls, parking, entry fees at any attraction, and GST are additional and billed at cost. Where a package day runs into the late-night window, the night component applies as a named line.
A local package is the wrong instrument for leaving the city. The moment your day involves a genuine intercity run, the outstation structure is both cheaper and more honest, and we will tell you to switch rather than quietly billing a hundred and fifty kilometres of extras against an eighty-kilometre package.
